We created this on a whim and a desire for data visualization to see if there are any trends with the recent firework activity.
Basically what this allows you to do is see a map of places where people are reporting fireworks going off in the past 16 hours.
It also allows you to add your own location-based report when you hear fireworks going off around you; just tap somewhere on the map, move the marker if necessary, click the purple submit button that appears, then fill out the form and hit submit.
This is a work in progress, and although we do blur the location latitude and longitude a little, if you place a marker at your GPS location, we recommend you just drag it a little in the direction of the fireworks.
The only information we save from you is the GPS coordinates of the marker you added, whatever note you included, the proximity, and your IP. We do not track your location as a user, however we do use Google Analytics.
What we currently plan to work on: improve the heatmap view (dark mode), display the notes people leave, allow users to look back in time, and improve our data integrity (ie: distinguising bad data from good data). We're always willing to take requests.
