Event Entry Help
We welcome all LGBTQ+ event organizers to submit their LGBTQ-centric events. However, since our target demographic is typically patrons of LGBTQ+ nightlife, we assume all events are 21+ (or 18+ where consumption laws differ). If your event is NOT 21+, please specify in the description.
Due to our original specific focus on nightlife, our current date and time configuration systems may not be optimal for other non-nightlife related events. If your event does not seem compatible with our current system (which is slowly evolving), you can reach out to us directly and we can figure something out.
To prevent spam and other bad actors, all events are subject to approval from an admin. We reserve the right to reject any submission with no notice.
Approvals take longer for events submitted with venues that are not currently in our system (as we need to build up that venue listing before we can list the event).
There are a few exceptions we make during the event submission approval process to keep our platform secure, safe, and useful.
Again, our demographic is typically 21+ and 18+ events, but we do accept certain all-ages events.
For the safety and security of our platform and its users, we do not typically accept drag story hours. We appreciate what y'all do, but since that falls outside of our site's demographic and since we would rather not have bat-shit alt-righties trolling around here, we do not list them.
We also do not typically approve large tour-style events such as concerts. Our reasons for this are two-fold. Primarily, touring shows typically have a lot of funding for marketing and can be found across several other event and ticketing platforms with more reach than ours. Additionally, our platform aims to focus on local LGBTQ+ nightlife rather than big names with the means to travel (and sell out a big venue).
What Kikipedia Venues Means
In step 1, you will see 2 tabs. "Search Venues" and "Add New Venue". Search Venues allows you to look up your venue from all the venues currently in Kikipedia- both actively listed and hidden as event-only venues.
The "Add New Venue" feature allows you to look up a venue that may not already be on our site using the Google Maps Location Search. If we have the venue in our system, it will automatically match it for us. However, if it is not already in our system, it will take some time for us to add it and bring the venue listing up to snuff before we can approve the event.
What Does "Event-Only Venue" Mean?
Event-Only Venues are venues that are only used for Kikipedia events. For example, Boston's House of Blues is an event-only venue. It is a live-music venue, and is definitely not an LGBTQ+ bar or club. It only exists in our system so we have the location data, website, and a photo to link any of the LGBTQ+ parties that happen there (such as Sapphic Nights) to it.
I cannot enter dates / The date I entered is rejected
Try using a browser other than Safari, or update your Mac OS or iOS to the latest version (if your device even supports it). Historically, Apple does not do a good job of supporting and implementing widely-accepted standards. Firefox and Chrome typically have no issues here.
Recurring, One-Time, and Multi-Date
The recurring event tab allows you to set your event to recur weekly, monthly, or semi-monthly.
We support all typical patterns such as "Every Saturday" and "The First Friday of the Month". We also support semi-monthly patterns for events that happen twice a month, such as on the First and Third or Second and Fourth instance of a day of week. We also recently added in support for the Fifth instance of a day of week in a month, which will only happen on certain months that have 5 instances of a day of week.
Every other week events are supported as well, and alternate based on their start date. If you have an event that behaves like this, please link it to your email address so you can keep it updated if you need to skip a week or change the repeat cycle.
Multi-Date events allow you to specify multiple dates for your events, which is useful for events, competitions, and drag shows that may happen on multiple dates, but not actually be regularly recurring. Note: At the moment, we do not yet support different start and end times for each date.
One-Time events are automatically deactivated once they end. If you include your email address, you can always go into our management portal, update, and reactivate the event to a new date if it is going to happen again.
Start and End Times
For events on Kikipedia, we assume that if the end time for an event is earlier than the start time, the end time is the next day. IE: if the date is March 8th, and the start time is 8PM, entering an end time of 2AM will make the system assume that you mean 2AM on March 9th.
We do not currently support full-day events.
My Event Is One-Time Now, But Might Be Regular In The Future
Then list is as a one-time event now, and include your email address in the provided field. If it becomes a recurring thing, you can come back through the management portal and update it! This will allow you to maintain your event's SEO on Kikipedia as well as the number of recommendations and Tea it has.
How we use your email
If you are an event organizer or promoter who is submitting your event to our site, we encourage you to include your email address with your submission. By doing so, you consent to allowing Kikipedia to contact you about your submission. Including your email address will allow us to notify you upon approval of your event, reach out for clarifications, and to make changes to your event using Kikipedia's Management Portal.
What If It's Not *My* Event
Including your email essentially makes you an owner of the event on Kikipedia. If the event is not your own, do not feel obligated to include your email.
Instead, you can leave any other notes or methods for follow-up correspondence in the "Notes for Admins" field, right before the submit button.
Email Privacy
Your email address is encrypted and stored securely. It is never publicly visible on any Kikipedia page, and can only be seen by Kikipedia administrators. Kikipedia does not sell or share users' email addresses with any third party.
Accessing the Management Portal
The management portal can be accessed here. If you submitted an event or casting call to Kikipedia with your email address, and it was approved, entering your email address into that field will send you an email with a login link. That login link will allow you to edit or remove your listed events.
